Mighty Oaks - Pre-School Room
In the Mighty Oaks room, the children follow a routine to meet their needs which includes morning and afternoon circle time, with a welcome song, followed by craft and free-flow play. The children can choose to stay indoors or venture outside into the pre-school garden. The garden area is a natural environment developed to encourage growing imaginations; the children particularly enjoy playing with the large sand pit and mud kitchen.
In the Mighty Oaks kitchen area, there is a daily rolling snack which is available for all children. They are invited to help themselves to this when they want it which encourages their independence. There is a daily music and movement session which involves singing and dancing before outside play on the Malcolm Sargent School playground. The morning and afternoon routines mirror each other to help with learning consistency ready for school.
The Mighty Oaks staff team provide a supportive transition programme for all our pre-schoolers which prepares them for their move into Foundation Stage at primary school. Part of this includes a weekly Funergy session held in the hall at Malcolm Sargent Primary School, as well as weekly languages with Lizzy and Music Mavericks sessions. We also offer weekly Balanceability lessons which aims to teach children how to ride a balance bike, giving them confidence before moving onto a pedal bike.
All the pre-school children in Mighty Oaks and Mini Oaks have access to our bike track which is situated to the rear of our nursery. This is a secure and private area where the children can bike, trike, scoot and free play. We also have access to the Malcolm Sargent School fields and nature trail which the children can explore on a nature walks.
